Habitat
Dianthus diutinus is a plant of the natural and slightly degraded open perennial sand grasslands (Festucetum vaginatae), witch forms a mosaic with the poplar-juniper stands.
It prefers warm, slightly humously sandy soil. Sometimes it can be found also in dryer and more opened grasslands too. It is appearing also in closing grasslands, showing sand steppe character. It can be found both in not wooded grasslands, and in areas half shaded by shrubs or trees (Crataegus sp., Juniperus communis, Populus alba or P. canescens).
